By Josh Krysak 1 min read

A Uniontown man was charged with assaulting his 4-week-old daughter during a dispute with the child’s mother Thursday in Uniontown. City police Sgt. Wayne Brown said Tobias Alexander Mitchell, 28, of 124 Shaffer St. was charged before Magisterial District Judge Michael M. Metros with aggravated assault, two counts of simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, endangering the welfare of children and harassment following the incident.

The alleged assault occurred at 6:10 p.m. when Mitchell went to the Reppert Boulevard home of Jessica Tobak and attempted to take custody of their newborn child, Bishop Mitchell.

Tobak told police that Mitchell wanted the infant to stay overnight at his home and that when she refused they started to argue, Brown said.

Brown said that during the argument Mitchell struck Tobak in the left side of her head and also struck the baby in the head.

Brown said that the child suffered visible injuries to the left side of her face and was taken by ambulance to Uniontown Hospital for treatment.

A preliminary hearing will be held at a later date for Mitchell before Magisterial District Judge Michael M. Metros.
