Bullets hit SUV on Route 119
State police are investigating an incident in which two bullets struck a vehicle traveling northbound on Route 119 in South Union Township Thursday. Cpl. Chuck Frey said the incident occurred as Franklin D. Crowder, 49, of Morgantown, W.Va., was driving his sport utility vehicle near the Walnut Hill exit at about 11:45 a.m.
Frey said that as Crowder traveled northbound, his 2000 Mercury Mountaineer was struck in the rear passenger side by two bullets.
“At this point, we don’t know where the shots came from or what caliber of gun was used,” Frey said, noting that neither bullet traveled into the interior of the vehicle.
One bullet struck the rear passenger side door and the second bullet struck the rear quarter panel. Crowder and a passenger, Scott D. Kohne, 50, of Pittsburgh were in the vehicle when it was struck with the bullets, police said.
Frey said that no one was injured as a result of the shooting.
Frey said that investigators scoured the vicinity for clues Thursday afternoon. It was not clear where the shots could have been fired from to allow the shooter a trajectory to strike the vehicle. Frey did note that investigators did discover some nearby all-terrain vehicle trails that could have been used to access the area.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call police at 724-439-7111.
