Cherry Tree Nursing Center gets helping hand from volunteers
When Connie Clark, an Allison resident, left the hospital and was in need of rehabilitation to get strong enough to go home again, she was referred to Cherry Tree Nursing Center. While Clark was there, she worked hard in therapy to reach her goal. She walked daily and exercised to strengthen herself but she was also very involved in the facility activities. She participated in everything going on from bingo to parties and socials.
When the time came for Clark to be discharged to home, staff and residents were happy to see her go but saddened by it all at the same time. But thanks to all her hard work, she now volunteers weekly at the facility.
The new volunteer program coordinated by Debbie Palmer, DON, and Faith Riggin, activities director, gave Clark a way to give back.
“She is a great help to the activities whether it be in decorating or just bringing a smile to a resident’s face,” said Palmer. “So many times we see the sadder side of our jobs. It’s not often enough that we have such a success story.”
Anyone wishing to volunteer their time is asked to call the activity department at 724-438-6000, extension 459.
