Park timbering bids sought

By Christine Haines 2 min read

LUZERNE TWP. – The Luzerne Township supervisors are seeking bids for timbering at Patsy Hillman Park. According to Gregg Downer, the secretary/treasurer of the supervisors, a pre-bid conference will be held at the park with potential bidders at 10 a.m. Friday, May 28, to review the site to be timbered. Bids for the work will be opened at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 9 at the township building.

The Patsy Hillman Park Board intends to use funds from the timbering to help pay for new restrooms at the park.

Public sewer lines are being extended to the park as part of the Swan Plan sewerage project expected to begin later this year.

The supervisors last week adopted an amended ordinance requiring sewer lines to be properly plugged if vacant homes connected to the public sewerage are demolished.

Prior to last week’s regular township meeting, the supervisors held a public hearing on the use of this year’s Community Development Block Grant money.

Downer said the intent is to use the money to repave streets in the Swan Plan, but because of the pending sewerage project, the money and the project would probably be held until next year. The grant is approximately $84,000.

Downer said a children’s fishing derby will be held at the park from 9 a.m. until noon Saturday, June 5. Registration for the free event for children ages 6 through 12 will begin at 8 a.m.

The supervisors are currently seeking bids for stone, patching material and gasoline/diesel fuel.

The bids for those items will be opened at 8 a.m. June 8.
