Brownsville man charged with assault

BROWNSVILLE – A man accused of threatening a woman with a handgun in Brownsville is now behind bars. Brownsville police said Bruce James Carr, 29, was charged before Magisterial District Judge Michael Defino with aggravated assault, terroristic threats, recklessly endangering another person, possession of prohibited weapon, carrying a firearm without a license, harassment and disorderly conduct following the incident early Tuesday.

Police said the charges were filed after Miranda Hartford, also of Brownsville, went to an apartment building on High Street to retrieve some of her belongs.

Hartford told investigators that Carr was sitting inside a vehicle outside the building when she arrived and that he got out of his car and pulled out a handgun, police said.

Police said Carr pointed the gun at Hartford’s head and threatened to kill her and also threatened to shoot a woman who had gone to the location with Hartford.

Police said Carr was later taken into custody without incident.

He was placed in the Fayette County Prison on $50,000 straight cash bond following his arraignment.

Police noted that they also served a summary warrant for Carr’s arrest in an unrelated matter following the incident.

A preliminary hearing is set for 1:30 p.m. Monday before Defino.
