Construction to open on sewer line repair

By Herald Standard Staff 1 min read

CALIFORNIA – Construction is set to begin Monday on an emergency sewer line repair along Route 88 at the north end of California Borough. Route 88 will be restricted to one lane between Mechanic Street and Rotary Park during business hours so approximately 1,500 feet of new sewer line can be installed, according to officials with Fayette Engineering, the borough’s engineering firm.

Engineer Art Brower said a 4-inch force main began leaking raw sewage on March 26. A heavy rubber hose has served as the temporary fix to the problem, with a 10-inch gravity line being installed as a permanent solution.

Seiler Excavating of Hopwood offered the lowest price to install the new sewer line along Route 88, coming in at $120,550.

The contractor has 20 days in which to complete the job.
