Basketball PAC releases rankings Waynesburg University ranks eighth in the PAC men’s basketball rankings. Thomas More (Ky.) is the favorite, with 131 points in the poll, including eight first-place votes. Thiel followed the Saints with 128 points and seven first place votes and Bethany was third with 114 points and two first place votes. Waynesburg had 23 points. The Yellow Jackets were 2-22 last year and 0-12 in conference play.

In the women’s poll, the Yellow Jackets are ranked seventh out of nine teams with 70 points. Thomas More was the overwhelming favorite, with 177 points, including 17 first place votes. Saint Vincent came in second with a pair of first place votes and 149 points. Washington & Jefferson had 124 points and one first place vote. Waynesburg was 9-17 last season and 5-9 in PAC play.

Wrestling Waynesburg shares title

Waynesburg University kicked off its wrestling season Saturday by sharing the team title with host Messiah College.

The Yellow Jackets and Messiah scored 105 points as Elizabethtown came in third with 90 points.

Nick Garber won the 141-pound class for the fourth time with a 13-1 major decision over Elizabethtown’s Jarrod Cawley.

Junior Garret Johnston also took home a championship, coming in the 157-pound division. The West Greene graduate went 5-0 at the event and earned the title with a 10-8 overtime win over Ryan Pastore of Messiah.

Alex Crown and Marty Kisla earned runner-up honors. Waynesburg returns to action Nov. 13 for a dual match at Hershey, facing York, Johns Hopkins and Shippensburg.
