Uniontown native appreciative of support following house fire

By Herald Standard Staff 1 min read

A West Virginia man who was born and raised in Fayette County and who still works every day in Uniontown said he has been overwhelmed by the support of the community after his home was destroyed by fire in early September. Brad Parker, who manages Auto Land Suzuki in Uniontown, said that he and his wife and young granddaughter were at their Berkeley County, W.Va. home Sept. 5 when the fire occurred.

“I got home at 9 p.m. and we put our granddaughter to bed and decided we were going to have a cigarette on the back deck,” Parker said. “I watched my wife put her cigarette out in a flower pot and I put mine out in a candle jar and then we went to bed. It was no later than 10 p.m. Later, around 1:15 a.m., I woke up and heard the smoke alarms going off.”
