Story Time starts today at library

By Herald Standard Staff 3 min read

Well, we’re just plain giddy at the library, now +.Sandy is back. She’s been off, and oh, how we’ve missed her. So, with Dolores back two weeks ago, and now Sandy’s return, we’re in great shape. Sadly, we’re saying good-bye to Anne Wachtel who helped us out while we were short-handed. She’s off to a new adventure, and we wish her well and will miss her. Thanks, Anne for all your help and your delightful smile. Please come back to visit. With the fall season comes the return of story time in the Children’s Room. Miss Dianne announced it will begin today and Thursday and be held each week on Wednesday and Thursday at 11 a.m. Story Times will run for 10 weeks and end Dec. 15 and 16. Bring your preschoolers for a fun morning of stories, crafts, snacks and social interaction with other moms and children. If you have questions, call us at 724-437-1165.

A couple of months ago, I mentioned we have the 2006 edition of the Thomas Register of Manufacturers and Businesses for sale. We’ve reduced the price, so if you’d like to stop in and take a look at it, it’s here.

While you’re here, spend some time looking at the ongoing used-book sales. In the main lobby, all books and magazines are 10 cents each. The book sale in the main room of the library showcases newer books as well as a few collectible ones. Many of you have been cleaning out closets and shelves and bring quite a few new books for this sale area, so chances are, you’ll find many bargains on books you’ve wanted to read.

There is also a used-book sale in the Children’s room with great buys on gently used books for kids. It’s hard to leave without finding something to take with you, and you can’t beat the prices. Come see.

I personally want to thank all those who made the Bunco party this past Saturday such a huge success including the members of the Friends of the Library who set up vendor tables, businesses and individuals who donated items for the Chinese auction and prizes and the Uniontown Country Club.

We are one of the fortunate few Pennsylvania libraries to have an active and supportive Friends of the Library group. For years, they’ve diligently pursued fund-raising activities to assist us in our mission to provide quality library service to our community.

Anyone who has considered becoming a member of the Friends of the Library, is invited to the come to the next meeting at 1 p.m. Nov. 8 in the library’s second floor meeting rooms. Come see us in the library, browse the ongoing book sales, and become a Friend.
