Critz, Burns give views to H-S Editorial Board

By Herald Standard Staff 1 min read

The two candidates that squared off in May to fill the 12th Congressional District seat held by the late John Murtha will do so again Nov. 2. U.S. Rep. Mark Critz, D-Johnstown, who garnered voter support in the spring special election will again face Republican challenger Tim Burns of Eighty-Four in the general election.

Critz and Burns met with the Herald-Standard editorial board Friday to discuss a wide range of topics including health care, tax cuts, Social Security, the impact of Marcellus shale mining on southwestern Pennsylvania along with the U.S. involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan.

According to a recent survey conducted by the Susquehanna Polling and Research, 42-percent of likely voters said they would vote for Critz next month while 36-percent favored Burns. Of the 400 surveyed, 21-percent of the participants said they are undecided about which candidate will receive their support. The margin of error is plus or minus 4.9-percent, according to the data.
