Amzi “Jake” Yauger

Amzi “Jake” Yauger, age 80, of Hopwood, Pennsylvania passed away suddenly on Friday, October 15, 2010. He was born July 12, 1930 in Uniontown, Pennsylvania the son of Frank Yauger and Eliza Beal Yauger.

He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and received the Good Conduct Medal, the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the Combat Infantry Badge for his service.

He was a member of the General George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103, Hopwood.

“Jake” had been a Welder for 27 years with the former Fruehauf Manufacturing.

He was predeceased by his parents; son, David Yauger; and brothers, Clayton Yauger, Jim Yauger and John Yauger.

Surviving are his loving wife, Rose M. Apicella Yauger; daughter, Christine Whitlock and husband David Whitlock Jr. of Merrittstown, Pennsylvania; two grandsons: Nathan Whitlock, Timothy Whitlock; daughter-in-law, Patty Yauger; sisters: Laura Jane Breakiron of Smithfield, Pennsylvania, Janet Leatherman, Smithfield, Pennsylvania,Clara Cummings of Hopwood, Pennsylvania.

It was Jake’s wishes that a private interment would be held at Walnut Hill Cemetery, Georges Township, Pennsylvania, with the Rev. Rufus Peer officiating under direction of the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church Street, Fairchance, Pa.
