Two local state troopers honored
Two local state police troopers – one in Fayette County and one in Greene County – are among four-dozen state and municipal police officers across Pennsylvania to be honored for their efforts to curtail drunken driving. State police said Trooper John Pash stationed in Waynesburg and Trooper Christopher Cole stationed in Uniontown are among those to be honored at Seven Springs Thursday night with 2010 DUI Top Gun Awards.
Pash led all state police troopers with 112 arrests for drunken driving last year, while Cole placed seventh in the state with 63 arrests. Police said that as a result of increased enforcement, alcohol-related traffic fatalities dropped from 567 in 2008 to 451 in 2009.
Brentwood police Officer William Meisel Jr. led all municipal officers with 203 drunken driving arrests.
State police overall said troopers arrested nearly 17,000 motorists for driving under the influence, the most ever recorded in a single year in the state.
“I applaud these officers and all those who work so hard to identify and arrest impaired drivers,” state police Commissioner Frank E. Pawlowski said.
