Erasmo “Duke” Battencourt

Erasmo “Duke” Battencourt, 82, of Point Marion, Pa., passed away quietly Friday, October 22, 2010. Born November 25, 1927 at Jere, W.Va., he was a son of the late Joseph and Petra (Inoxos) Battencourt.

A U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, he retired after 25 years as a custodian with the Albert Gallatin School District. He had formerly worked at Houze Glass in Point Marion, and Morgantown Printing and Binding. He was a member of the American Legion Post 499, the V.F.W. Post 747, both of Point Marion and of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Morgantown for over 60 years.

He is survived by his wife, Freda (Masters) Battencourt; four daughters and their spouses: Lily Moody and Jim Bate, Mary and Frank Cupelli, Cammy Hall, Tonya and Kevin Cole; four step-children and their spouses: Rusty and Peggy Skidmore, Tom and Shelly Skidmore, Kelly Presock and Lloyd Smith and Shelly and Brian Harris; 18 grandchildren, 17 great-grand-children, three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Garcia, and two brothers, Joseph and Tony Battencourt.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

Deceased is a son, Adam Joseph in infancy; two brothers Rufus and Philip; and two sisters Lena and Tilly.

Friends will be received in the RICHARD R. HEROD FUNERAL HOME, Point Marion today (Sunday) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Monday until 11:00 a.m., the hour of service, with Elder Frank Dippel officiating. Interment follows in Little Arlington Section of Evergreen Memorial Park, Point Marion, with military rites accorded by the Point Marion Veterans Posts.
