Gertrude M. Shaffer
0005965306-01-1.jpg 0005965306-01-2.jpg Gertrude M. Shaffer, Franckowiak age 80, of Uniontown, Pa., passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 21, 2010 at Lafayette Manor Nursing Home. She was born on March 16, 1930 in York Run, Pa., daughter of Benjamin and Hattie (Hench) Franckowiak.
Her parents, a brother Tom Franckowiak and a sister Louise Franckowiak, preceded her in death.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 43 years Andrew M. Shaffer; two sisters, Dorothy Talpas and Eva Zerby, both of Cleveland, Ohio, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Gertrude was a faithful member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years, and visited sick and homebound parishioners. She retired from Burkowitz Garment Factory in Uniontown after 26 years as a Seamstress. She was an avid sports fan, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers.
A wonderful wife and a friend to many, “Gertie” will be greatly missed, as will her love and compassion for others.
Friends will be received at the STEPHEN R. HAKY FUNERAL HOME, INC., 603 N. Gallatin Ave., Ext, Uniontown, Pa. (today) Sunday, October 24 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.; and on Monday, October 25, 2010 until 9:15 a.m., when Prayers of Transfer will be said.
A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church at 10 a.m., with Rev. Father Alexander L. Pleban as Celebrant, and Rev. Father Leo Pleban, Rev. Father David Nazimek, and Rev. Father Ronald Simboli as Concelebrants.
Interment will be held at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Hopwood, Pa.
