Alleged dirty diaper used to hide marijuana

By Josh Krysak 1 min read

A Clairton woman decided to stash marijuana in an unlikely place to try and fool police, however, her plan ran afoul when officers decided to check her odd hideaway Monday morning, police said. State police Trooper Stefani A. Plume said the incident occurred at 9 a.m. when she stopped a car driven by India Makeba Banks, 23, on Route 40 in North Union Township.

Plume said that during the traffic stop, she gained consent from Banks to search the interior of her vehicle. At that point, Plume said Banks gave her what she claimed was a “dirty diaper” and said that the officer could throw it away in a bag of garbage inside the vehicle.

Plume said that she checked the alleged soiled diaper where she found a clear plastic bag with marijuana inside. Banks was then taken into custody.

Banks was charged before Magisterial District Judge Joseph M. George Jr. on possession of a small amount of marijuana, Plume said. She was released on $10,000 unsecured bond following her arraignment. A preliminary hearing will be held Nov. 3.
