H-S cartoon criticized

By Herald Standard Staff 4 min read

Letters to the Editor It was disheartening to see the negative cartoon in the Herald-Standard last week after the inspirational “Restoring Honor Rally” held on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in our nation’s capitol on Aug. 28.

Apparently the editors of our newspaper do not understand what it was about. The truth is that it was a spectacular gathering of approximately 500,000 patriotic American citizens who simply desire to see God, honor, faith, hope, charity and morality restored to our nation..

How could anyone be against that? Yet, when our president was asked what he thought of the rally, he trivialized it and said that he didn’t watch it. How very sad.

The rally was organized by Glenn Beck, with clergymen and Christian leaders from all over the country. No signs were displayed and an atmosphere of closeness prevailed among the attendees. Nothing political was mentioned, nor was there any racial division, contrary to what detractors proclaim. In fact, Martin Luther King’s memory was honored and his niece was one of the guest speakers.

At the end of the program, after many inspiring speeches and heartfelt prayers, the bagpipes played and the people sang “Amazing Grace.” Hearts were touched and tears flowed.

Beck, who is an independent voter, has requested that Americans pray on their knees each day for the November election and that America will experience a spiritual awakening in which God, honor and faith will be restored to our country.

Without God, we don’t have a lot to look forward to as a nation except a continued downward spiral. Our Heavenly Father’s way is the only way that works. Write it down and count on it. As the Bible says in Psalm 33:12, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.”

Obama backs Muslims

Pertinent to the letter to the editor by Anne Wachtel, (“Obama not a Muslim”), personally I don’t believe he is a Muslim, however one should not cast stones at those who believe he is or rightly note Obama is enthusiastic in promoting Muslim causes.

After all, what conclusions can be drawn by his actions, including passing on attending the “National Day of Prayer” but holding Ramadan celebrations in the White House and ordering NASA to conduct an outreach to Muslims?

In regards to Ms. Wachtel accusing others promoting “death, fear and hate,” I’d like her to visit lands ruled by Islamic Sharia law and see first hand the prejudice and violence non-Muslims face on a daily basis. Or she can visit many mosques, including those in America where fire-breathing imams preach hate and intolerance towards non-believers and call for the implementation of Sharia law in the west.

This is the same Sharia law which dictates amputation of limbs for theft, second-class status for non-Muslims and women, execution of homosexuals, apostates and those accused of committing adultery, etc. This is the same doctrine the Sept. 11th terrorists, the so-called “moderate” imam behind the Ground Zero mosque and its like-minded practitioners of the Islamic faith wish to bring to America.

These peddlers of hate and intolerance have not “hijacked” or “distorted” their faith. To the contrary, they are pious practitioners, following what is written in the later texts of the Koran and Hadiths.

If Ms. Wachtel, the mainstream media, politicians, etc., wish to throw accusations of “death, fear and hate” towards those who rightly oppose this barbarism getting a foothold in America like it has in Europe, they should think twice, turn around and direct their aim at those who are more deserving.

License needed

What happened to the “work permit” privilege to drive? They used to allow people who had their licenses suspended to drive to and from work “only.”

This way, at least they could go to work to pay on their fines. How are you expected to get to work to pay your fines if you have no transportation?

This would alleviate the problem of the jails being overcrowded.
