Fire damages Henry Clay Township home

Fire heavily damaged a mobile home in Henry Clay Township over the weekend, but no injuries were reported. Crews were called to 160 Meyers Drive shortly before noon Saturday for the fire at the mobile home near the Jockey Hollow boat ramp on Youghiogheny Lake. No one was injured in the blaze, which took less than an hour for crews to battle, Fayette County Emergency Management spokeswoman Sue Kozak-Griffith said. Markleysville firefighters were assisted at the scene by departments from Farmington, Ohiopyle-Stewart and several in neighboring Somerset County, Kozak-Griffith said. Lens on Litter photo contest announced

The Pennsylvania Resources Council Entries is seeking entries for its annual Gene Capaldi Lens on Litter Photo Contest. The photography contest rewards amateur photographers who snap unusual or eye-catching images of litter and its effects across the commonwealth. The purpose is to bring awareness and to encourage residents to take steps to reduce litter blight. The contest is open to Pennsylvania amateur photographers online. Fayette County man accused of exposing infant son to cocaine

A Vanderbilt man is accused of leaving cocaine unsecured at his house that was later ingested by his infant son. Stephen Kozakovsky, 30, is charged with endangering the welfare of children and recklessly endangering another person. The son, whose age was not listed in the complaint, was brought to Penn Highlands Hospital on the morning of Dec. 21, where he was described as “lifeless” and in respiratory distress. From there, he went to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh, where he was diagnosed with respiratory syncytial virus and pneumonia, court records stated. Greene residents charged with animal cruelty

Two Wind Ridge residents are accused of aggravated animal cruelty after two dogs in their care were found to be severely underweight. Several witnesses reported the dogs being overseen by Jaymes Vulcano, 25, and Sirena Smith, 47, looked thin and were roaming freely on Vulcano’s property on Wheeling Creek Road in November. Vulcano called SWPA Humane Law Enforcement about the dogs on his property on Oct. 28, saying they were abandoned, according to the criminal complaint. He was told they were his responsibility, and he would need to arrange their transport to the shelter, the complaint said. Mt. Pleasant, McDonald move ahead with regional police department

The communities of McDonald and Mt. Pleasant Township will take the next step in merging their police departments next week, though the unified agency is likely still months away from operating. The Northern Washington County Police Department Commission will hold its first meeting at 6 p.m. Jan. 20 at 31 McCarrell Road, Mt. Pleasant Township. The commission comprises Mt. Pleasant Township Supervisors Shane Maga and William Nimal, McDonald Mayor David Cooper and McDonald council member Mike Bish.
