MMVTA receives federal grant money
U.S. Rep. Mark S. Critz (D-Johnstown) said Monday that the Mid Mon Valley Transit Authority (MMVTA) has been awarded a $760,000 federal grant for the purchase of three new 40-foot buses to serve riders in Washington, Westmoreland, and Fayette counties. “Many residents depend on the Mid Mon Valley Transit Authority for their transportation needs,” said Critz.
“This funding will take outdated buses off the road and replace them with modern, efficient buses that will serve riders throughout the Mon Valley.”
The buses being replaced have outlived their useful service life and are in need of replacement. In addition to upgrading their fleet, this bus replacement will allow MMVTA to accommodate ridership growth occurring throughout its service region.
This funding was secured by the late-Congressman John P. Murtha in the fiscal year 2009 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations bill and was released by the U.S. Department of Transportation this week.
