Brownsville mayor says movie shoot was a success
BROWNSVILLE – Brownsville Mayor Lester Ward declared last week’s movie shoot in downtown Brownsville a success during Tuesday’s Greater Brownsville Area Chamber of Commerce meeting. “Nobody was negatively impacted,” Ward said.
Ward reported that all of the movie equipment has now been moved out of Fiddles Restaurant, which is sporting new paint and light fixtures for having served as part of the movie set.
Ward also reported that he has been in contact with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and has learned that the Old Brownsville Bridge, also known as the Inter-County Bridge, which was closed over the summer for rehabilitation, won’t be reopened until the first week of October. The original plans had called for an early September opening.
It was also reported during the meeting that Crosskeys Human Services will be holding its 35th anniversary dinner on Sept. 21 at the Summit Inn.
Louise Hicks said the social service agency usually holds its annual dinner at the Frank Ricco Sons of Italy hall in Brownsville, but that facility is too small for the 35th anniversary dinner.
Dennis Cremonese, executive director of the Brownsville Area Revitalization Corp., said the relocated and remodeled Frank L. Melega Art Museum will be hosting an exhibit of photos by southwestern Pennsylvania news photographers. The show will run from Sept. 25 through February 2011.
Cremonese said BARC is also in the process of planning its fall activities, including the annual Christmas toy drive for area children.
William Johnson reported that the Brownsville Rotary Club is in the process of collecting items to be sent to area soldiers serving overseas.
Scott Bowman reported that this year’s collectible Christmas ornament is now available at the chamber office and at Brownsville Bus Lines. The new ornament features the old Brownsville General Hospital Nursing School and the Florence Nightingale Pledge.
