WAYNESBURG – State police have presented a trooper in Waynesburg with a letter of commendation after he took “heroic actions” to stop a drunk driving traveling the wrong way on Interstate 79 in Greene County last month. Sgt. Kevin T. Kolson, Waynesburg station commander, said Trooper John R. Simko was presented the award Wednesday for his efforts the morning of Aug. 8.

According to Kolson, state police received multiple calls that morning reporting a car traveling southbound in the northbound lanes in Whitely Township.
