Local teen dies after shooting

A teenager, wanted for his role in an apparent gang attack several months ago, is now facing homicide charges after he allegedly shot and killed a Uniontown teen girl Thursday afternoon. Uniontown police Detective Donald M. Gmitter said 16-year-old Ramal Chisler, no address available, was charged as an adult early Friday with criminal homicide and related charges after police allege he shot Tiffany Moody of Uniontown.

Uniontown police Capt. David J. Rutter said Chisler turned himself in to officers at the police station on Penn Street shortly before 7 p.m.

Moody, 17, suffered a gunshot wound to her abdomen, Patrolman Thomas Kolencik said. Officials said that the bullet entered the girl’s torso and exited her back.

Gmitter said Moody was rushed to Uniontown Hospital by emergency personnel from Uniontown Firemen’s Ambulance.

Police Chief Jason A. Cox said that Moody died at the hospital about four hours after the shooting.

The shooting occurred around 4:25 p.m. in Apartment 50 at the Pershing Court housing complex. Cox said officers were called to the apartment for a report of a girl suffering a gunshot wound to her stomach.

He said when officers Kolencik and Sgt. Wayne Brown arrived, they found the wounded Moody lying on a couch inside the home.

Cox said police immediately cleared the house and the surrounding area.

He said that Gmitter then secured a search warrant for the apartment.

State police forensic investigators joined Uniontown police officers scouring the area inside the apartment and a wooded area in the rear of the complex.

Police cordoned off an area outside the housing unit as neighbors gathered on porch stoops to avoid the rain and watch the scene unfold.

Multiple state police troopers also responded to the scene.

Chisler was one of four Uniontown teens charged as an adult in May for an alleged gang attack in Uniontown and had been on the run from police since the incident.

Gmitter said officers continue to hunt for Aaron Durkin, 18, of Uniontown, following an alleged gang attack on May 10 that left three people suffering multiple injuries.

Chisler faces 10 separate counts, including multiple felony charges, Gmitter said.

Uniontown police Officer Travis Shandor said the attack occurred shortly before 8 p.m. at 104 Murray Ave.

According to Shandor, Richard Silbaugh, 19, of Fayette City; Kevin Rich, 19, of Uniontown; and a Uniontown teenager were sitting on the porch at the residence when between 20 and 30 teenage boys ran out of an alley and started to attack them.

Gmitter said that at least one of the aggressors was wielding a knife and several others were armed with large pipes.

Shandor said that Silbaugh, Rich and the teenager on the porch suffered multiple injuries during the fight and were taken to Uniontown Hospital for treatment.

Three other suspects – Kyle Bass, 16, of 26 Pershing Court, Uniontown; Demond Wiggan, 16, of 87 Cleveland Ave., Uniontown; and Tre McCargo, 17, of 27 Lenox St., Uniontown – have all been captured and charged as adults for their alleged roles in the attack.

All three will face trial in Fayette County Court.

Chisler was placed in the Fayette County Prison without bond following his arraignment.
