Salvation Army aids fire victims
LUZERNE TWP. – A Luzerne Township couple has been displaced following a fire Thursday that destroyed their home at 105 Thompson 2 Road. The Uniontown Salvation Army was helping the Raymond Hice family. Salvation Army Capt. Christopher Blessing said two adults lived in the house. No one was home when the fire began around 5:45 p.m.
“When we got there, they were shivering cold. They had been out in the rain. We provided them with coats and coffee and things like that,” Blessing said. “We provided them with clothing, shoes and socks at the scene.”
Blessing said the Salvation Army is conducting a case assessment to see what additional help the family may need. The couple is staying with relatives.
In addition to helping the fire victims, the Salvation Army’s canteen truck was on the scene to provide food and beverages to the firefighters.
Eight fire companies responded to the fire at 5:45 p.m. and remained on the scene until around 10 p.m. Officials at the scene said no one was home when the fire began and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
The Tower Hill, Edenborn, Allison 2, Adah, Footedale, South Brownsville, Isabella and Republic fire departments were on the scene.
