BROWNSVILLE – Brownsville Area School Board voted to hire several new employees at the regular meeting Thursday. Added to the professional substitute list were Tracy L. Encapera, Edward M. Elnikar, Aaron Legarsky, Rachel McClain, Ashley Snyder and Ashley Young.

Mark Higman and Holly Ritchie were added to the non-professional substitute list.

Renee Sanders was hired as a part-time general aide. Her salary will be consistent with the district/SEIU contract. Directors R.W. “Rocky” Brashear and Nena Kaminsky voted against the motion.

Tonya Bohatch and Tracey Hutchinson were also hired as part-time aides, with Brashear voting against those motions, noting that he couldn’t vote in favor because he was unsure as to where those positions would be placed.

The board unanimously voted in favor of the hiring of Jolene Hough, Olivia Frazier, Carolyn Marucci, Suzanne Morris, Joseph Shashura, Renee Balaz, Amy Guty, Abby Thompson, Tiffany Logan, Rae Lyn Duke and Kellie Polvinale as tutors for the 2010-11 after school program for students in kindergarten through second grade.

Tutors will be paid $50 per session per teacher and paid by Educational Assistance Program funds. Darlene Bill, Cindy Herilla and Marietta Allamon were hired as aides for the after-school program.

They will each be paid $30 per session by Educational Assistance Program funds.

In athletics, Philip Nunzio Quattrone was hired as the assistant middle school football coach for the 2010-11 school year with compensation set at $1,000. Daunte Congelio was hired as an assistant part-time athletic trainer at $10 per hour. Kaminsky abstained from the vote.

Roxie Furlong was hired as head middle school cheerleading coach for the 2010-11 school year at $1,500. JoAnna Encapera was approved as the volunteer assistant middle school cheerleading coach.

The board also contracted constables Robert Geary, Bill Jacobs, Dave Williams and Jim Campbell for security at home football games for this season.

A cost of $75 each for the four home games will be paid out of the general fund.

In other business, the board:

n Approved the transfer of $1,800 from the general fund to the athletic fund account to pay for security services. Kaminsky questioned the reasoning for the low balance in the athletic fund. Dr. Philip Savini, district superintendent, said the low balance is a result of poor attendance at home games.

n Approved the donation of the old Redstone Field Stadium scoreboard to Patsy Hillman Park.

n Approved the agreement between the district and the Uniontown Area YMCA for a program of organized swimming for therapeutic purposes for students. Cost is $150 per session for one session per month.
