Laurel Highlands 235, Connellsville 235 – Alex Ashton medaled for the Mustangs (9-0, 10-0) who move one step closer to a playoff berth. “The kids have been playing hard,” said Mustangs’ coach Mike Smith. “They haven’t let the record get to them. They know we still have a lot to play for.”
John Gabriel and Rich David finished with 40 each for the Mustangs.
Jeremy Guzy’s 41 and Derek Plaski’s 43 rounded out the scores for the Mustangs.
Johnny Leonard and Eric Harrer each shot 43 for the Falcons while teammates Tyler Steilwagon and Jonathan Grienko shot 48 and 50 respectively.
Shawn Bennett shot 51 for the Falcons as well.
Southmoreland 216, Geibel Catholic 220 – Gators’ Ryan Robson and Scotties’ Daniel Wright finished tied at 41 apiece, but it was Wright who medaled in this section match.
Zac Black and Aaron VanFleet shot 42 and 43 respectively for the Scotties (2-5, 2-7) while teammates Austin Keller and Brandon Yuhouse shot 45 each.
Mike Spegar finished with 43 for the Gators (3-5, 3-6) with Mike Spegar shooting 43.
Jace Blout and Mike Noonan finished with 45 each for the Gators.
Beth-Center 219, Jefferson-Morgan 225 – The Bulldogs are in position to earn a playoff berth thanks to medalist Austin Smith’s 38 finish.
The Bulldogs face Washington and Carmichaels in a triangular match at Carmichaels Golf Course that could send them to the playoffs.
“This is what our season is based on now,” said Pat Calvaresa. “We know if we win those two matches we have a good chance to make the playoffs.”
Tyler Sabatula and Alex Antonio shot 44 each for the Bulldogs while Lucas Diethorn and Matt Sabatini finished with 46 and 47 respectively.
Zach Berkstresser was the low shooter for the Rockets with 38.
Boys soccer
Chartiers Houston 5, Beth-Center 3 – Bobby Lucas scored a quartet of goals for the Buccaneers, including a hat trick in the first half.
Girls volleyball
Geibel Catholic 3, Mapletown 0 – The Lady Gators swept the Lady Maples 25-11, 25-15 and 25-16.
Kayla Maruniak had 8 kills and 23 service points for the Lady Gators who also benefited from seven kills from Emily Mechling and 13 assists and 13 service points from Marissa Galloway.
Andrya Durr and Wendy Dickerson each had 2 kills for the Lady Maples with Durr also recording two digs.
California 3, West Greene 0 – The Lady Trojans swept the Lady Pioneers 25-10, 25-22 and 25-23.
Chelsea Tyler had 8 kills and 3 blocks for the Trojans with Danny Zajicek recording four aces and 12 assists
Boys soccer
Bethel Park 7, Albert Gallatin 0 – six different Black Hawks scored goals while Colonials’ goalie Ryan Jenkins recorded 12 saves.
Laurel Highlands 7, McKeesport 0 – Jesse Laverdiere completed a hat trick 28 seconds into the second half.
Jim Lementowski, Alex Merchbaker, Elliot Weiss and Aaron Hanzes also each scored goals.
Womens tennis
Waynesburg 9, Thiel 0 – The Yellow Jackets lost just seven games improving to 1-1 in section.
Mens soccer
California 4, Pitt-Johnstown 2 – The Trojans finished with a 19-6 shot advantage and lead 2-1 at the half.
