Local officials spread awareness of preventable disorder

Earlier this month a group of volunteers rang bells and walked through downtown Uniontown to try and increase awareness of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. Sept. 9 marked the 11th anniversary of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Awareness Day.

FASD is an umbrella term that describes a range of disabilities that occur as a direct result of alcohol consumption during pregnancy, according to Joseph Augustine, a prevention specialist with the Fayette County Drug and Alcohol Commission.
