One hospitalized, one in custody following early morning robbery

By Herald Standard Staff 1 min read

State police have one of the men who tried to rob a Dunbar Township business in custody, while a second is in a Pittsburgh hospital recovering from a gunshot wound to the head. Charges have yet to be filed against either of the man who allegedly tried to rob the owner of Toby Recycling, off of Laurel Hill Road, around 8:30 a.m. today.

State police Sgt. James Caccimelio said that when the owner of the business, whom police have not yet identified, arrived this morning, the men were waiting for him and burst into the business with a Taser and a baseball bat.

Caccimelio said the men attacked the owner, but the owner was able to free himself and grab a shotgun.

The owner fired a shot, which hit one of the men in the head, Caccimelio said, noting that it appears the man will survive.

After one of the men was shot, they both fled the scene, and the man who was shot was dropped off at a home in Dawson, Caccimelio said. A woman at that home called for an ambulance, and that man is in police custody.
