Fayette Chamber holds food drive to benefit food bank
The Fayette Chamber of Commerce will kick off their annual Fayette Chamber Cares Fall Food Drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 2 at Adrian’s Market in Hopwood. Area residents are asked to drop off their donations of non-perishable items to benefit the Fayette County Food Bank. For their donation, they can register for the grand prize of a chest freezer donated by B.J. Mundel Furniture Co.
In conjunction with the food drive, the chamber is also holding a turkey drive. Interested persons can donate $10 per turkey that will be used to purchase a turkey for a needy family. According the Muriel Nuttall, the chamber’s executive director, generous chamber members have already contributed 150 turkeys.
“We are proud, as an organization, that our members are so willing to help. We work with the Fayette County Food Bank so that our members and those who donate can be assured that their donations will reach throughout Fayette County. Part of our mission as a chamber of commerce is to work to improve the community in any and all ways possible. We are hoping that this food drive will help to make a difference for the families in need.” It is the goal of the Chamber to raise enough funds for the purchase of 300 turkeys.
“In today’s economy, the need for assistance is very great. Many of our neighbor’s here in Fayette County are struggling. In addition to the turkeys, our goal is to collect 2,500 pounds of non perishables food,” said Chris Kennedy, volunteer chairman of the food drive.
