Daley plans town hall meeting

By Herald Standard Staff 2 min read

State Rep. Peter J. Daley, D-California, chairman of the House Commerce Committee, announced that he will host an upcoming town hall meeting on the fiscal benefits and pitfalls of Marcellus shale drilling. The meeting will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 12 at the Mon-Valley Career & Technology Center, 5 Guttman Ave., Charleroi.

“It is important to recognize that the market and value of the natural gas located in the Marcellus shale formation will grow as conventional natural gas reserves are depleted and our economy adjusts to a path with lower greenhouse gas emissions,” Daley said.

“I am holding this meeting in the hopes that we can educate the public on the current size, economic impacts and future prospects of the Marcellus Shale natural gas industry in Pennsylvania,” Daley said.

The meeting will be formatted to give the public maximum opportunity to ask a group of panelists specific questions related to any and all aspect of Marcellus shale drilling.

“Our area has always been coal-driven and now we are at the cusp of a new energy production boom,” Daley said. “It is important to know all the facts and I encourage the public to attend this meeting and to ask any and all questions that they might have regarding this industry.”

Daley noted that studies show the Marcellus industry could be worth $13.5 billion and add almost 175,000 jobs by 2020.
