Judge revokes bond for suspect in shooting case

By The 1 min read

A Greene County judge on Wednesday revoked the bail for a Spraggs man who allegedly shot at two people, wounding one, earlier this summer. Ricky Ray Raber, 45, is charged with attempted homicide and aggravated assault for allegedly shooting at Randy L. Yoders Jr., 20, of Spraggs while Yoders and a 14-year-old boy were sitting in a vehicle at the intersection of Sigbee and Schley streets in Wayne Township on July 5.

Raber posted a $75,000 percentage bond on Sept. 10. One of the bail conditions was that he stay away from alcohol and drugs, but District Attorney Marjorie Fox indicated Raber was arrested on Sept. 21 in Monongalia County, W.Va., for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Judge Farley Toothman granted Fox’s request to revoke and forfeit Raber’s bail.

State police alleged the bullet that Raber shot hit Yoders in the lower right shoulder.

State police Trooper Mark Schmelzlen said Yoders suffered a collapsed lung and was taken by medical helicopter to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., for treatment.

The 14-year-old was not injured, police said. Police never indicated why Raber fired at the car.
