Esther Grace DeFrank Christy
Esther Grace DeFrank Christy, age 81, Carmichaels, Pa., died March 30, 2011 in Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Mrs. Christy was born December 27, 1929 in Moffitt Sterling,the daughter of the late Orville Shear and Myrtle May (McMannes) Morris.
Mrs. Christy is survived by her husband Dominick Christy Jr.; 3 sons: Michael DeFrank Jr. (Butch), Carmichaels, Theodore DeFrank (Marlene) Dry Tavern, and Robert DeFrank (Sherri), Given, W.Va.; a daughter: Nancy DeFrank Brown (George), Clarksburg, W.Va.; a daughter-in-law, Lucille DeFrank, Carmichaels; 8 grandchildren: Candace Klimek (Scott), David DeFrank (Christina), Michelle Church (Lee), Angela Loring (Eric), Grace Rachel Brown, Corey P. Brown, Zachary DeFrank and Christopher DeFrank; 2 great grand-children: Austin and Page DeFrank; 2 sisters: Betty Dusenberry (Joseph), Midland and Martha Jane Headlee, Charlottesville, Va., and a dear friend: Georgetta Schifko (Bud), Carmichaels.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Christy was predeceased by her first husband: Michael DeFrank Sr. in 1969, 4 sisters: Stella Morris, Mazella Morris King, Ruth Ann Morris Dawson, and Shirley Morris Kefover, and 5 brothers: Donald, Harold, Walter, Clarence and Carl ‘Bud’ Morris.
Esther was a licensed beautician, and graduated from the Greene County Vocational Technical School as a licensed Practical Nurse in 1973. She worked as an L.P.N. at Greene County Memorial Hospital for several years.
She was a member of the First Christian Church, Carmichaels, and the Greene Academy of Art.
Esther enjoyed playing bingo, the Meadows Casino, and shopping yard sales. She was known around Carmichaels as the ‘Bingo Babe.’ She was an excellent cook who prepared many feasts for her family.
Esther loved small children and was always handing out dollar bills and lollipops to them.
Friends will be received in the LESAKO FUNERAL HOME, INC., 204 Dowlin Avenue, Carmichaels, Pa. 15320 (724-966-5100) on Sunday April 3, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Monday from 10 to 11:00 a.m.
Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Reagan Fike, officiating.
Interment in Greene County Memorial Park, Waynesburg.
