?PERRY TWP. — Township supervisors awarded a contract for demolition of a bridge at Tuesday’s meeting.

Supervisors A.J. Boni, Janet Galla and Clarence Johnson unanimously voted to award the $19,800 contract to A.W. McNabb of Burgettstown for the demolition of Happy Valley Bridge.

A.W. McNabb was the lowest of 10 bidders to submit proposals.

The highest bidder was Danmar Contracting Inc. of Delmont, submitting a bid more than $79,000 higher than A.W. McNabb’s at $99,500.

Other bids ranged between $22,000 and $90,000.

Boni said Happy Valley Bridge, which is structurally deficient, has been closed for about three years.

The township plans to build a road in its place once the bridge is demolished and previously voted to investigate funding, including seeking grants, to replace the bridge.

Supervisors said they hope to have the current bridge torn down and a road in its place by the end of the year.

In other matters, supervisors voted 3-0 to advertise for bids to have roads sealed and paved.

Boni explained that the township will ask for bids to have 3,048 feet of Amelios Hill double sealed and 5,000 feet of Court Road paved.

In addition, supervisors congratulated the eighth grade math class at Frazier Middle School for clinching the national championship in a math problem solving competition.

The three-month competition, called “March Math Madness,” started in January and had participation from 1,400 schools across the nation.

Frazier beat Roosevelt Elementary School in Boise, Idaho, to claim the national title.

“The students worked hard and deserve to be congratulated.

“They beat the nation,” Boni said.

The next township meeting is scheduled for 7?p.m. May 3 in the municipal building.
