Joseph A. Sereg, Bobtown
Joseph A. Sereg, age 84, of Bobtown, Pennsylvania died Tuesday, April 5, 2011 in Coville’s Personal Care Home, Masontown, Pennsylvania.
Born March 26, 1927 in Carolina, West Virginia, he was the son of Andrew Sereg and Mary Pekar Sereg.
A United States Navy veteran of World War II, he was a coal miner, retired after 41 years from J&L Steel’s Shannopin Mine in Bobtown.
He was a member of Saint Ignatius Roman Catholic Church in Bobtown where he served as usher for many years and was on the Parish Council.
He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America Local 6159 and a Life Member of the Polish Club and the Rod and Gun Club both in Bobtown.
In his spare time and since his retirement, ‘Joe’ was an avid fisherman and loved spending time outdoors.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Burless Sereg, whom he married on October 6, 1951; two daughters and their husbands: Denise and David Menhart of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Patty and Chris McPherson of Morgantown, West Virginia; a grandson, Joey Menhart; two sisters: Becky Elliott of Brook Park, Ohio and Liz Petroff of Cleveland, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews and their families.
Friends will be received in the RICHARD R. HEROD F U N E R A L HOME, Point M a r i o n, Pennsylvania on Friday from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday, April 9, 2011 until 9:15 a.m. when a Prayer Service will be held.
A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. in Saint Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, Bobtown, with the Reverend Father Lawrence V. Holpp as Celebrant.
Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park, Point Marion, Pennsylvania.
Parish Vigil Service will be held in the Funeral Home on Friday at 8 p.m.
