German supervisors announce projects

By Tara Rack-Amberfor The Herald Standard 3 min read

?GERMAN TWP. — German Township supervisors have announced that various township construction projects soon will be taking place.

At Tuesday’s meeting, supervisors said a paving project for Lutheran Church and Baker Hill roads will begin once the weather turns favorable. The project will be done by Burnett Oil Co. Inc. of Canonsburg.

Also, a bridge will be installed on the Browns Run Trail. With a bridge in place, the trail will end at Shortcut Road.

The bridge is being funded through a Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) grant through the office of state Rep. Bill DeWeese, D-Waynesburg, and a grant from the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

In other business, resident Chuck Ferguson voiced his concern about the amount of road dust that is being dispersed into his home. Ferguson, who attended a supervisors’ meeting in September to discuss the same issue, returned Tuesday to see if the supervisors had money in the budget to cover the paving project. Ferguson told the supervisors he would be happy if the road was at least tarred and chipped.

After the discussion, the supervisors said they will do something to help reduce the amount of dust.

In other matters, the supervisors announced several programs will be held at the German-Masontown Public Library, including “Hop-A-Long” story time on April 21, a free one-hour resume workshop in May and an introduction to smartphone programs. For more information or to register for the programs, call the library at 724-583-7030.

Brian Coll is looking for volunteers to assist with the planning of the Fourth of July celebration that will take place in German-Masontown Park. To volunteer, call Coll at 724-583-9883.

The supervisors also expressed their gratitude to several families that picked up litter and garbage along roads in the township. The Bergman family cleaned up a section of Route 166 and Gates Road; the Hauser family covered an area of Edenborn-Church Hill Road; the Balchek family took care of Baker Hill Road; while the Burkholder, Cavaliere, Dupont and Wilson families cleaned Bukovitz Road and parts of Tree Farm Road.
