?A Cardale woman accused of cutting herself multiple times and then concocting a story about a violent rape in Luzerne Township earlier this year waived a single charge of providing false reports to law enforcement to court Monday.

Trooper Heather L. Clem said Leah Dawn Saluga, 30, reported to police on the afternoon of Feb. 20 that she had been beaten and raped by a man on Narrows Run Road between 12:30 and 3?p.m.

Saluga waived the single charge filed against her to Fayette County Court during a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Mike Defino Jr. on Monday.

Clem said that Saluga told investigators that the suspect was dressed as a woman and was walking a dog on Narrows Run Road when he approached her, and tied her up with a dog collar. Clem said that Saluga told police the suspect led her into a wooded area where he raped her and cut her.

Clem said that the words “dog killer” were carved into the flesh on Saluga’s left arm.

She said Saluga also suffered cuts and lacerations to her face, chest, arms, legs and genital area, and also told police that the suspect had cut off some of her hair.

Clem said that because of the severity of the crime, a large group of state police troopers and other police officers responded to the location in an attempt to locate the alleged assailant.

After further investigation and subsequent interviews with Saluga, Clem said police determined that the cuts and injuries Saluga suffered were self-inflicted and that she had not been raped or assaulted.

Saluga was placed in the Fayette County Prison on 10 percent of $5,000 bond following Monday’s hearing.
