Cumberland Township supervisors announce pipeline survey
CUMBERLAND TWP. — Township supervisors on Monday said residents should expect to be contacted by a company doing a survey for a gas pipeline.
William Groves, chairman of the board of supervisors, read a letter from Transco saying it would be conducting the survey for Williams of Houston, Texas, for a proposed 235-mile pipeline running from the Pennsylvania-West Virginia border through Greene and Fayette counties to Transco’s compressor station in Delta, York County.
The letter says Transco conducted a feasibility study for the line in 2007 and 2008, but the project was shelved so gas transportation needs in the area could be better assessed.
In re-initiating the field study, Transco said it would contact property owners in a wide corridor to get permission to survey land and much of the proposed route would follow existing utility corridors, according to the letter.
If the project moves forward, the company plans to ask the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to initiate a pre-environmental review this fall, the letter says.
