Rock Coville, 82, Uniontown, Pennsylvania found peace on Friday, July 29, 2011 a f t e r a lengthy illness.

H e w a s b o r n o n Wednesday, January 16, 1929 the son of William and Elivira (Palotta) Coville in Brownfield, Pennsylvania

Rock Coville, the owner of Gallatin Oil Company, had a long and successful local political career, beginning as a Committeeman, as a Laurel Highlands School Director, and culminating as a South Union Township Supervisor for 30 years. During his tenure in office, South Union Township became the leader as Fayette County’s most progressive municipality.

Rock was an avid deer hunter and he was proud that his grandsons, Rocco and Travis, are continuing this tradition. Rock’s love of the outdoors and spending time with his fellow R.E.M. Hunting Lodge enthusiasts was one of his greatest joys.

The whole family enjoyed stocking the fish ponds as a way to celebrate the start of summer.

Rock was a member of the Hutchinson Sportsmen’s Club, the R.E.M. Hunting Lodge, General George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103 in Hopwood the Catholic War Veterans, The Knights of Columbus, and various other organizations.

He was a Merchant Marine for two years.

He enjoyed watching sports teams and in his younger days played baseball and softball and later coached little league.

His parents and a brother, Dominick Coville, preceded him in death.

Rock is survived by his wife of 61 years, Norma Jean; and four children: Rock Anthony Coville at home, Tanya Bartelo and her husband Michael of Northville, Michigan, Shauna Frankhouser of Uniontown, Rico Coville and wife Tracey of Wheeling, West Virginia. He took great pleasure in enjoying time with his grandchildren: Brittany Bartelo, R o c c o Bartelo, Gina Connors, Travis Frankhouser and Tanner Cheuvrot; and his siblings: Ada Amandola, Joan Malik, Jane Hanzely, James Coville.

Family will receive Friends in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church Street, Fairchance, Pennsylvania today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday, August 2, until 9:15 a.m. when a Prayer Service will be held.

A Funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. in Saint Therese de Lisieux Roman Catholic Church, 61 Mill Street, Uniontown, with Monsignor Michael W. Matusak, V.F., Pastor, as Celebrant.

Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park Brownfield, Pennsylvania.

Parish Wake Service will be held in the Funeral Home today at 3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Western Pennsylvania School for Blind Children, 201 North Bellefield Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15213.

Visitation was also held on Sunday, July 31, from 7 to 9.
