BROWNSVILLE — A week full of activities is planned in Brownsville, highlighted by the 98th Annual Kennywood Day Thursday and the Second Annual Community Day Saturday.

Area residents and visitors will have two opportunities to walk through the town, with the Brownsville Neighborhood Watch participating in the National Night Out on Tuesday and with Fayette County’s Healthy Lifestyle Task Force on Wednesday.

The Tuesday event starts at 7 p.m. near Georgio’s on High Street, with participants walking to the North Side. All participants are asked to bring a flashlight and residents are asked to turn on their porch lights.

The Wednesday walk starts at 6:30 at the Market Street parking lot. Participants will get a history of the town, including Snowden Square and the significance of the Monongahela River, the wharf and the old lock wall. The walk will end at Thompson House.

Thursday marks the 98th Annual Brownsville Day at Kennywood Park sponsored by the area fire departments. Hundreds of current and former residents are expected to take part in the event. There will be a guest book for visitors to sign near the food court. The event benefits the Brownsville No. 1, South Brownsville and West Brownsville volunteer fire departments.

Members of the public will have the opportunity Friday to watch the launching of a barge at Brownsville Marine Products. Preregistration is required for the free event and all people attending the launch will be taken to the site by shuttle bus. The first bus will leave the Market Street parking lot at 12:20 p.m. To register, contact Norma Ryan at njryan@barcpa.org.

Brownsville’s Second Annual Community Day kicks off Saturday at 11 a.m. with a parade downtown, followed by festivities in the Market Street parking lot. The event is cosponsored by the borough and the Brownsville Area Revitalization Corporation (BARC).

More than 30 food, craft and game booths will be set up for the festival, as well as a full day of entertainment.

Events wind down Sunday with the closing reception for the 2011 Artist of the Pike exhibition at the Frank L. Melega Art Museum from 1 until 5 p.m.; the photo exhibit at the Rose house from 4 until 5 p.m. and Jill West and Blues Attack in concert on the Nemacolin Castle grounds from 6 until 8 p.m.
