Domestic Violence Services of Southwestern Pa. (DVSSP) offers safe shelter and support services for victims and their children who are forced to flee their homes because of domestic violence.

Weekly support groups are available. All programs are free and confidential. For more information in Fayette County, call 724-439-9500 or Greene County call 724-852-2463.

School programs are available from pre-school through college. All programs are at no cost, can be tailored to meet your specific needs and are presented in an age appropriate fashion, officials said. For more information, call the Education and Training department at 724-437-2530.

DVSSP is looking for volunteers to help at the Fayette County locations. The next volunteer training class will be starting in the fall. Call Jennifer Soisson at 724-437-2530 for more details.

The agency is also looking for individuals, businesses, schools, churches and agencies to participate in the Purple Ribbon Tree Campaign. During October, people are asked to decorate small trees and shrubs with purple ribbons and larger trees with big bows in order to raise awareness for Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Those interested in decorating a tree or would like to find out other ways to help, can call 724-223-5477 in Washington County, 724-852-2373 in Greene County or 724-437-2530 in Fayette County.

“Domestic violence is a crime. Ignore it, and it will continue to take its toll, one life at a time. Please help us bring awareness to domestic violence so that we may help prevent more victims from suffering abuse,” officials said.
