DAWSON — The Dawson Grange Community Fair committee is finalizing plans for the Aug. 8-13 fair that will feature a variety of activities, arena shows, musical entertainment and plenty of good food, according to organizers.

Jackie Beranek, fair committee publicity chairwoman, said that there will be new activities for those that attend the 32nd Dawson fair.

“One of the new, big items this year is the addition of a carnival for children and adults,” said Beranek.

The committee has also agreed to include four game booths and other features to entertain fairgoers.

Janet Smith, grange secretary, said that a gospel night, has also been added to the fair schedule.

“Gospel night is something that the fair committee discontinued five or six years ago, but agreed to bring it back this year,” she said.

Festivities begin Aug. 8 at noon for those entering exhibits. Smith said that exhibitors must present their artwork, craft, vegetables, fruits, flowers, hay or other items to the committee representative and that any item can be rejected if it does not meet regulations.

Smith urged those planning to enter exhibits to consult the fair rules before Aug. 8. A list of rules is available at the Dawson Grange office or at the Brownfield Community Center.

The official opening of the fair will be at 7 p.m. with the crowning of the queen and princess at 7:30 p.m.

The scheduled arena show will be a truck and hay contest with a variety of gospel music to be performed on stage.
