Robert N. Provece, 90, died July 30, 2011 in Matthews, NC.

A native of Masontown, Provence was the son of N.P. Provence and Ethel Johnson Provence.

He graduated from Masontown High School in 1938 and was a member of the 1938 State Championship Debating Team. A graduate of West Virginia University’s School of Journalism in 1942, Provence entered the service and rose to the rank of Captain in the Army Air Corps Intelligence section with the 8th Air Force in England. For 30 years he was an announcer, news and sportscaster and program director of radio stations in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio and North Carolina, where he was Program Director of WSOC-TV in Charlotte. He was associated briefly in 1949 with WMBS, Uniontown. Provence was a retired vice president of advertising for North Carolina National Bank, one of the country’s largest banks, now known as Bank of America.

He is predeceased by his loving wife of more than 65 years, Rachel Tuckwiller Provence of Lewisburg, WV, and youngest son, Steven.

Surviving are son, Robert Provence of Richmond Hill, GA and his wife, Kitty; daughter, Linda Ferguson of Savannah GA; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Also surviving is a sister, Mrs. Charles Speggan of Masontown.
