Grant money paves way for airport access road
JOHNSTOWN — U.S. Rep. Mark S. Critz, D-Johnstown, announced Wednesday that $400,000 in federal funding will be used to construct a three-lane access road linking Murtha Drive to the Greene County Airport.
The grant is being provided by the U.S. Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC).
“Extending Murtha Drive across Route 21 to the Greene County Airport will open up the newly created airport business park for development,” said Critz. “Business parks need easy access to roads and highways in order to attract tenants, and this access road will support Greene County’s efforts to attract companies and jobs to our area.”
The state Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will administer the project. In addition to the $400,000 in ARC funds, state sources will provide $110,000 and local sources will provide $140,000, bringing the total funding for this project to $650,000.
The ARC was established by Congress in 1965 to serve as a regional economic development agency that represents a partnership of federal, state, and local government. The ARC works with communities throughout Appalachia to create opportunities for economic development and improved quality of life.
