Hazel Spahr
Hazel Spahr joined her husband Ron in Heaven on August 2, 2011.
Born September 15, 1930 in Charleroi, Pa., she also lived in Belle Vernon, Pa. and enjoyed her recent years at Liberty Tower in California, Pa.
Hazel was a wonderful and loving mother to her three fortunate children: Kathleen (Bill) Cranisky) of Stockholm, N. J., Karen (Dave) Primm of Smithton, Pa. and Richard (Stacy) Spahr of Pittsburgh, Pa. She cherished her grandchildren: Melinda (Brent) Taylor, Amy (Ben) Wentzel, Lauren and Drew Cranisky, Chelsea, Tanner, Carly, Caleb and Carter Spahr and was a doting ‘Gigi’ to her great granddaughter Addison. Hazel was thrilled to welcome three new great-grandsons: Nolan, Sam and Eli. Her beloved sister also survives her. She leaves behind many other treasured family members and friends.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Lettie Duke and by her sisters Myrtle Duke and Esther Armbruster.
Hazel was the friendly face behind the counter of Rostraver Pharmacy for many years. She volunteered at the Center in the Woods and the American Legion Post 790 Support Our Troops program.
She was a member of the Liberty Tower Tenant Council as well as being involved with the Primetimers, Sunday School and Worship Service at the Calvary Church of the Nazarene.
Devotion to family was the epitome of Hazel’s life. She and her sisters Helen and Myrtle created many happy memories researching the family tree on their genealogy vacations.
She also loved country music, cats, half-birthdays, elves, Scrabble and her ‘crushes’ James Garner, Andy Griffith and Burt Reynolds. Her quick wit and dry sense of humor stayed with her until the end, when her only lingering concern was for the family she leaves behind.
It was Hazel’s request that there be no viewing. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at the CALVARY CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE, 73 Promised Land Drive, Coal Center, PA 15423. Visitation with the family will be from 10 to 11 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life Service.
A fellowship luncheon will be served at 12 noon.
Donations may be made to Calvary Church of the Nazarene in Hazel’s memory.
L.L. BARTHELS FUNERAL HOME, INC., Smithton, Pa. is in charge of the arrangements.
