Raymond Teets, Jr.

Raymond Teets, Jr., age 86 years, of Smithfield, Pa. passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at his home.
He was born in Fairchance, Pa. on August 26, 1924, a son of the now late Ray Teets and Helen Miller Teets.
Ray graduated from the former Georges Twp. H. S. in 1942, where he was an honor student and standout on the cross county team, which won the WPIAL Championship in 1941 and competed for the State Championship at State College, Pa.
Ray enlisted in the U. S. Navy, WW II after graduation from high school in 1942 and served until 1946, attaining the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class. In that same year he married Ruth Klingensmith, who sadly passed away in 2006 after 60 years of marriage.
Ray was employed as an underground mine surveyor for H. C. Frick Coal Company, Division of U.S. Steel Corp. He worked as a Surveyor from 1947 until 1972 and as Assistant Mine Foreman from 1972 until his retirement in 1983.
He enjoyed building and maintaining his and Helen’s home, which he completed in 1961. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed maintaining their property, which he fondly referred to as his ‘ vast acreage’, 1 and 1/4 acres.
Left to cherish his memory are two sons: Scott and wife, Laura of Uniontown, Pa. and Jeffrey of Waynesboro, Pa.; six grandchildren: Eric, Kristi, Bryan, Melissa, Andy and Ryan; two great-grandchildren: Zachary and Nicholas. He is also survived by sisters-in-law: Pat Teets, Jean Klingensmith Sutton, and Adeline and LaVina Klingensmith and many nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will receive friends in the JOHN F. BROWNFIELD FUNERAL HOME of Smithfield, Pa. on Thursday, August 4, 2011 from 1 P.M. until 3 P.M., when services will be conducted with Rev. Scott Teets, his son, officiating
Interment will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, Pa.
