Point Marion River Town Program launches new initiatives
POINT MARION — Residents are being invited to take part in the Saturday cleanup of the Point Marion Community Park and discuss future revitalization plans for the community.
Cathy McCollom, director of the River Town Program, said that the park was listed as a priority during a recent Point Marion River Town assessment meeting to identify projects to improve the community.
“Everyone agreed that the first impression for visitors to Point Marion needs to be one of a welcoming community, eager to offer services, an interesting and historic town to explore and linger in,” said McCollom, noting the park’s trail-head location.
Volunteers will also install new picnic tables and grills at the park.
Other initiatives targeted at the July assessment meeting included street front beautification, improved signage and the need to attract more businesses.
“We will review the action team projects and potential resources to get these projects implemented,” said McCollom.
Future meetings and activities will also be discussed, she added.
Volunteers are asked to meet at the park at 9 a.m.
The Mon River Trails Conservancy will provide refreshments, water and Gatorade. Participants are encouraged to bring a box lunch.
“Please join us at the park as we launch this new initiative,” said McCollom. “We need everyone’s support as we work together for the betterment of Point Marion.”
