Menallen officials to question county tax claim bureau on tax sales
MENALLEN TWP. — Real estate was a hot button topic this week at the Menallen Township supervisors meeting.
After receiving a real estate transfer letter, supervisors learned that two properties in Buffington that were condemned by the township were sold by the Fayette County Tax Claim Bureau during a tax sale.
During much deliberation between supervisors and township code enforcement officer Myron Nypaver, it was decided to send a letter to the county to explain to the township the procedure on selling houses in the township that have official action against them including condemned.
In other real estate matters discussed Thursday, supervisors agreed to go through the bidding process concerning the demolition of derelict properties. Anyone interested in bidding must collect a bid specification that describes proper procedure and the details that must be met during the demolition such as dust control, asbestos abatement and proper back filling.
“If they don’t do it (the requested procedures), and it is in the bid spec, then it is enforceable,” explained Nypaver.
Supervisors also approved two minor subdivisions that were presented to them by the planning commission. Paul Swinglish Trucking and Paul Angelo estate requested the divisions.
In other matters, supervisors:
n Said the sewer project for Route 40, the remainder of New Salem Road, Misty Meadows Lane and Upper Middletown Road are in the bidding process stage.
