Newell man charged with firing rifle in occupied home

A Newell man is facing multiple charges after he fired a rifle inside his home while several people were at the residence July 23.

Southwest Regional police Chief John D. Hartman said Jeremy A. Staley, 28, of 105 Miller St. was charged by Magisterial District Judge Jesse Cramer with discharging a firearm into an occupied structure, recklessly endangering another person, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct as a result of the incident.

Hartman said the incident occurred shortly after 10 p.m. when Staley apparently accidentally discharged the rifle inside his home.
