Uniontown Redevelopment Authority approves parking lot sale

By Steve Ferris heraldstandard.Com 2 min read

The Uniontown Redevelopment Authority on Tuesday approved an agreement to sell a city-owned parking lot on Main Street to the Fayette County Housing Authority, which would build a three-story office building on the site.

The contract calls for the city to sell the lot at 8-10 E. Main St., which is adjacent to the Fayette County Public Service Building, to the redevelopment authority for $10 and then for the authority to sell in to the housing authority’s non-profit division, Fayette Asset Management Inc. (FAMI) for $75,000.

Uniontown City Council approved the agreement last week, but the housing authority hasn’t yet considered it. The FAMI would pay for construction.

Solicitor Jack Purcell said approval from the federal General Services Department for the SSA to relocate is pending.

In unrelated business, the authority agreed to sell the homes in the Maple Street Estates development on Maple Street for the appraised values.

Executive Director Mark Yauger said the first three homes are finished and their appraisals are $144,000, $136,500 and $135,000, but actual sales prices would be lower due to $30,000 grants and $10,000 deferred loans.

The grants are second no-interest mortgages forgiven at a rate of 15 percent per year for 15 years. The buyers would have to repay the unforgiven balance if they sell the homes before 15 years.
