Carmichaels council reiterates King Coal Show parade restrictions
CARMICHAELS — Residents who set chairs out early for the King Coal Show parade might not stand for recommendations made by council this week.
Carmichaels Borough Council on Tuesday reinforced restrictions residents will be asked to abide by for the upcoming King Coal Show parade.
First, Councilman Chris Bates said that in prior years, chairs have crowded the sidewalks for days before the start of the parade. This year, chairs will not be allowed on the sidewalks until the morning of the parade, he said.
Second, there will be no parking along the parade route after 2 p.m., he said.
Borough officials said anyone parking on the streets of the parade route after 2 p.m. will be towed. Also, chairs put out any earlier than the morning of the parade could be confiscated, officials said.
“The parade is like the Fourth of July around here,” said Bates.
The 58th annual King Coal Show parade will take place at 4 p.m. Aug. 27, he said.
Council members also decided to use leftover grant money to tar and chip borough streets rather than blacktop them.
Bates said that by tarring and chipping, the city will get more for its money.
In other matters, a recent burning issue that has upset some members of the community has been resolved, said Dean Campbell of Carmichaels.
Mayor Mike Dohanich was absent from the brief meeting.
