Housing authority learns status of new office building in downtown Uniontown

1 min read

The Fayette County Housing Authority heard Thursday that the federal Social Security Administration is expected to seek proposals for a new downtown Uniontown office building soon.

In anticipation of the release of a request for proposals, executive director Thomas Harkless said a purchase agreement is being secured with the city of Uniontown, which owns the property where plans are to build the office building.

Harkless said he expects that the proposal request will be sent out within the next two weeks, and the authority must show it maintains control of the property.

The proposal will be to construct a building to house both the social security administration and housing authority offices.

The social security office is at the Uniontown Shopping Center and the housing authority offices are in North Union Township and together they employ about 80 people.
