Relay For Life ambassadors give hope
?Ambassadors from all previous Relay For Life of Fayette County walks will return this year to show those currently battling cancer that there is hope. The 24-hour event will occur from noon Saturday to noon Sunday at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus.
“Ambassadors show those who are fighting cancer and the community at large that yes, there is hope. Despite cancer we’re still out here fighting, and we’re here to help whoever needs it,” said Lisa Rose of Uniontown, a 2011 ambassador also serving as co-chair of the Fayette County walk.
Rose, a six-year breast cancer survivor, said the American Cancer Society offers assistance and programs for those battling all forms of cancer.
Relay For Life is an event, Rose said, that brings all different cancer survivors together.
“It’s important that no one feels they are alone,” she said. “When you’re first diagnosed with cancer all sorts of thoughts run through your head. But when you come to these events and you see 10-year survivors, 15-year survivors, 20-year survivors, it gives you hope that we’ll all be celebrating a lot more birthdays.”
Ambassadors will lead all participants be walking the first lap during the opening ceremony, which will occur noon Saturday.
Rose said she will be at the event the entire 24 hours, and she encouraged others to come and participate as well. “It’s always a good time. people don’t realize how special it is until they come and witness the event firsthand,” she said.
